ANIMAL WING RECORDS
The origins of Animal Wing Records was inspired from the necessity of cheap band rehearsal space. Our landlord offered a heavily discounted room which was tucked away in the decommissioned animal wing of the human centrifuge building, deep in the bowels of the former Naval Air Development Center.Walking down the pitch-black hallways, large steel tie-down rings protruded intermittently from the concrete floor, leading to a windowless room with zero air conditioning and no heat. A massive industrial incinerator and rows of abandoned animal cages were our only neighbors.It was cold, brutal, and completely isolated - the ultimate high-volume sanctuary for loud amps, heavy riffs, and zero noise complaints.That concrete room established the DNA of how we operate today. Founded in Pennsylvania, Animal Wing Records carries that same unfiltered, industrial DIY spirit forward - pressing heavy music on our own terms.

“I Versus the Glacier” had always been a special record for us. It was our first record on a label, JJ Koczan’s Maple Forum, and the fact that our much cooler friend wanted to put it out meant the world to us and still does.It got us our first real reviews, our first interviews, and our first out of town shows. We played shows from New England to Florida and met some of our favorite people along the way.As for the record itself, for the first time we thought hard about what songs would make the cut and what songs would get left behind. Our mantra for the record was, “all heavy, all the time.”The lyrics swing from serious explorations of grief to synopses of goofy horror movies, but the theme of endurance is woven throughout the record. If anything, that’s what we’re most proud of with “I Versus the Glacier.” This record, our band, and our love for each other has endured.Steve Poponi recorded and produced “I Versus the Glacier.” He’s no longer with us to celebrate this release, but I’d like to think he’d be proud that all these years later, people are still digging it.Poponi forever.
